Non-Dotty news for once, but this is worth spreading the word far and wide: Scala.js — the Scala-to-JavaScript compiler that lets you write Scala code and run it in the browser, on Node, and in other JS-centric environments — has reached a long-awaited release candidate! Here is the official announcement.

Keep in mind, Scala.js has been production-quality for years now: I’ve been using it for Querki for something like five years without complaint. But they’ve held off on an official 1.0 while they gathered more data, learned how things worked in practice, and generally got to a point where they felt they could make something that would be really stable and consistently usable.

Querki is, sadly, way behind the times (I’ve got some components holding me back, which I’ll hopefully address soon), so I can’t try this out myself. But if you’re using Scala.js, or have been thinking about doing so, I’d recommend trying the new release candidate and giving feedback ASAP if you find any issues…
